Auctioneers, Beers & Bears, Oh My!

Time for a little weekend recap.

For those of you who didn't know, I made the 5 hour drive up to Moscow, Idaho with my mom this weekend for the University of Idaho's Mom's weekend. We go up in the spring to see my baby sister who is a Sophomore this year.

The weather was beautiful, campus was buzzing, and I couldn't have asked for a better weekend.

Highlights:

Friday afternoon we sat outside at one of my favorite places in town (boy do I miss my college town!), Patty's Kitchen. It's an outside seating Mexican place that is always full when the sun is shining. I had a nice big beer as we shared nachos and caught up on girl talk.

First thing Saturday morning my mom and I went on a walk to get some exercise before starting our day. Our (brand new) hotel was up in the hills of the Palouse between Moscow and Pullman so we had a gorgeous walk out in the countryside.

Later Saturday morning we had brunch at my sister's sorority which was followed by a live auction of gift baskets. A frat boy from a neighboring house does the auction - he owns is own livestock auction business! Needless to say HE makes the whole thing worth while.  A mile a minute is an understatement, plus he has a hell of a sense of humor to go with.

Saturday afternoon my best friend drove over from Washington and our first stop was the research center at WSU (Washington State University is just 7 miles away across the state border) where they have a bear facility. We thought we got there at just the wrong time as they had put all the bears inside for feeding. But just as we got ready to leave, they let the cubs out! YOU GUYS BABY BEARS!!!! They had four cubs about the size of large puppies. They played in a kiddie pool, wrestled, and followed their handlers around like follow the leader. It was so cute, we just about died.

Campus in general was gorgeous. It is my favorite time of year to visit my old brick and ivy campus. Everything is green and blooming, and everyone is outside after a long Moscow winter hibernation.

What did you do this lovely spring weekend?
