Just do the Dang Thing


When the anxiety of doing something you have to do is so great that you choose to write about it instead of doing it, you know it's bad.

For weeks now I've known I have to do the thing that makes my gut ache and almost brings me to tears. I keep telling myself it's not THAT bad and it will all be fine. But the phone still doesn't get picked up and the numbers still don't get dialed.

But today is the day. Today I will.

My friend Sarah Elizabeth @ SEDiva Abroad shared this post this week and it hit home. "Do something that scares you." Sounds simple enough. Generally I like doing things that scare and excite me. Like that body pump class I threw myself into Sunday (where I was shaking uncontrollably due to the dehydration from the beers the night before). But this? The one thing, that for zero explainable reason strikes fear into my heart? Not so easy.

It has to happen though. And I know the second I get done doing what will take me less than half an hour I will feel a huge release. A weight will be lifted and joy will set in, all because I did that thing that scares me. 

Sarah says it perfectly, "You’ll never get over your fear, but courage is a practice just like any other and though you might not erase your fear, you’ll learn how to be brave."

Today I'm being brave. Today I will get it done. Today is the day.

  1. Good luck with your thing! You can absolutely do it- and no matter how it turns out, you have the validation that YOU did it and it's over and you came out alive and well!

  6. Do it!! You'll be okay :). I was scared of telling my boss I was going to quit. I ended up doing two laps around the floor, passing his door, before I finally went in haha.

  12. You got this! I've had that feeling, but picture how relieved you're going to be afterwards!

    And yes to body pump. I've totally been there, and hid in the corner because I was sure I sweat out all my brunch mimosas and stunk of champagne...(which isn't the worst thing to smell like I guess)
