5 Things I Think You Ought To Know

It's no secret July was a slow blog month for me.

So for the few of you still hanging around, thank you, and let's get caught up shall we?

Here are five things upcoming, exciting, or just plain share worthy so that you can know what's going on with me. You know, since you missed me and all.

ONE | I had my 2 year blogiversary and it came and went. No balloons, no confetti, not even a give away. Still I feel like it was a big milestone and I'm kind of sad I wasn't able to celebrate it.  {Insert cheers with a big frosty craft beer here}

TWO | I'm getting a new blog design! The amazing Erin from Love Fun and Football is doing the redesign and I am super excited. Think bright and fun with a twist. I. CAN'T. EVEN. WAIT. Here's a sneak peak at my inspiration board!

THREE | The BF built me my very own desktop for home. I feel like I'm a real time blogger now with a real computer at home and my own desk and everything. Now I just want to decorate the space with pretty blogger inspired etsy prints and artsy goodness.  But I'm broke. Oh and did I mention that I have a 32" monitor? Yeah it's humongous and that isn't even an exaggeration. Pins for days my friends.

FOUR | This weekend is the annual pool party one of our good friends and his parents throw each year as sort of a send off to summer. It's one of my favorite weekends of the year and it couldn't have landed more perfectly than the weekend after Fair. Lord knows this girl needs a drink, and one last hurrah because...

FIVE | I am starting Whole30 Monday! The book arrived last night and I can't wait to dive in. I NEED to get my eating under control and shed a little bit of weight and I feel like this might be the program I can actually stick with. Let's hope I'm not too hungover Sunday so that I can do all my meal prep! Post to come on all that business soon!

And basically that's it over here. Hope you have a beyond amazing weekend!

#HASHTAGHUMPDAY | Fair Confessions

A little more Fair talk and then I'm done I swear.

Ok I lie, it will probably pop up again, but I'll cool it after this one a little!

It's that glorious day of the week again, the one that signals we're half way to the weekend, and the one where you get to stare at Schmidt's face and link up your #hashtags.

I hope you look forward to it as much as I do! Oh and that you say hi to the lovely Lauren - or I'll getcha, so do it!

Can you tell I'm still a little delirious?? Judge me. Your welcome to.

#Hashtaghumpday @ Life with Lolo

First a little business. Here’s the scoop:
  • Each Wednesday create a post about what’s going on in your life and #hashtag each item or story. See an example HERE. Be as creative as you want!
  • Grab the button and include it in your post
  •  Link up so we can all #creep on you and find out what’s new/funny/awesome /shitty in your life.
  • Comment on at least one other blogger’s post from the link up (someone you don’t already know!) if there even is anyone who links up…
  •  Share on all your social sites with #hashtaghumpday
  • Have fun! #hashtagtheshitoutofeverything #whocaresifitsarealhashtag

Kapeesh?

So this is a compilation of all the random, funny or just plain memorable things that happened at Fair this year. Maybe they were more entertaining to my sleep deprived giggly self last week, but I'm going to share them anyway.

Day one, I had the most bizarre pick up line experience of all time. I'm driving around in my cart, in a polo and jorts, so not a hot look, and yet the white trash looking guy made it a point to stop me and the gal I was with to "tell us something." I stopped since as staff I need to answer any questions attendees had. He proceeded to tell us our "legs were cloudy." I gave him the "WHAT?" more than once and he repeated himself. Then he told us "I'd like to see them clear up." Still oblivious to the meaning since I had been up since 3:30 am that day, I drove off, and the girl I was with explained it to me - like legs "clear up" in the air - what a perv! #reallythatwasapickupline #itwasbad #dontusethatoneagain #whydidistop

Speaking of pervs, everyone's not so favorite weather guy was here doing the weather report Thursday morning (thus why I was up at 3:30 am) and then again at noon. In his morning segment I lined up a juggling act we have at the Fair, who happen to be a young married couple. They did an ok job and he was very appreciative that I had people to interview for each time slot. Come noon Mr. Sleezy made it a point to ask for that "cute little juggler gal from this morning. She was something" not referring to the other half of her act at all #notsosly #youobviouslyhaveaonetrackmind #noyoumaynot

Thursday night was my first "oh shit" moment as a new sponsor program was far more successful than I expected. I ordered 900 prizes thinking that would be plenty for the 500-700 folks who might actually fill out the scavenger hunt at Fair. That many did it just on Thursday and I almost had a panic attack Thursday night. Luckily we we're able to overnight stuff and got it Saturday #thatwasclose #sincewhendoiunderestimate #thesponsorBETTERbehappy

Hotel biscuits and gravy was a poor choice #iletyoudecipherthatone

Late Friday or Saturday night, I forget which (it all blends together) we came back to the office to a voicemail. A very drunk voice on the other line was asking about the "Fat Italian" we had at the Fair and whether or not he does "magic tricks or what?" Then he realized that the news article he was reading said it was an "Italian Ride" (carousel) and proceeded to agonizingly apologize in the voicemail and ended it with a "have a nice day mam." I wish I had the recording to share with you - seriously you'd be peeing your pants #ipromiseitwasfunny #wedidnthireafatitalian #nicetrythough #youprobablywouldntknowthedifferenceanyway

Sunday ended the fair with someone shitting they pants. Literally. I want to search this family out and rip them a new one because they left there very old, very confused grandfather alone in our exhibits hall while they went and enjoyed the Fair. He had an accident and no one was there to help him, nor would they come get him and take him home. HOW TERRIBLE CAN YOU BE?! #iwanttohurtyou #respectyourelders #takecareofyourfamily

Finally Sunday night we had a monsoon downpour during take down. That's always a fun surprise #atleastihadmyfrozenbananafirst

How eventful was your week? I can't wait to get caught up and read about it!

Tips for the "Marathon" Events in Life

I made it! Fair week is officially over, and I survived! But I do feel a face down nap on my desk could happen at any time.

After what felt like the longest week of my life, I feel like I've learned a few valuable things that are more worthy of sharing than just the "recap" of my Fair. Like all the food I ate...

There are lots of events in life that leave you on your feet for long hours and strain you both physically and mentally. Whether it's a family trip to Disney World, a five day music festival, or if you're like me, 15 hours a day on your feet for four days straight working at the Fair, there are some things that can make your "marathon" event a little easier.

(FYI - these photos have nothing to do with my tips - just fun from the Fair!)

1 | Wear the right kind of shoes, and rotate pairs. Even the very best shoes, if worn too much, can cause problems. I find it best to rotate 2-3 pairs that are comfortable to avoid any rubbing in certain spots and to change up your support daily. I still had blisters after my event, but if I hadn't switched shoes daily, there would have been a lot more.

2 | HYDRATE. Or as we say here at the Fair P.O.P.C. - pee often, pee clear. No matter what your event or the weather (like the 95 heat during Fair) it's important to stay hydrated. Your health and stamina depend on that important factor for your body. It's easy to measure by the POPC idea - keep your urine close to clear, and you're in the clear! You should SEE the water bottles I went through during Fair. I'm sorry to the environment because bottled water is where it's at when you are on the go...

3 | Keep it in perspective. Long hours and exhaustion have a way of making small issues seem like the end of the world. I know I get snappier and down right mean after long days under lots of pressure with little sleep. When things seem to get in your way or cause issues, take a deep breath and let it go. Tomorrow it won't make a difference. So when your Sunday performer's mic system malfunctions and people keep asking you to fix it, and you have to remind them YOU AREN'T THE SOUND GUY, don't get snappy. Just remember that it's all going to be ok - you've got this and it will work out in the end.

4 | Have a support team. I'm lucky enough to work with some of the best people in the world. They are always there to bounce ideas off of, vent to, and save my ass when needed. But best of all they are here to laugh with at the end of very long days, and they show up again early the next morning. Whether it's a family outing or a trip with friends, make sure you know there is someone with you to back you up. To be there for you if things get rough, or you just need a good laugh to get you through to your second wind.

5 | Enjoy it. You may think my 95 hour work week was miserable. But it wasn't. It was one of the best weeks of my whole year. Yes it's long, exhausting, and really wears on me heart and soul, but it's also so much fun. Just seeing the happiness of those who attend the Fair makes it so worth it. I make sure to take a few moments to just take that in. It's the same with any other "marathon" in life. You do it for a reason, so enjoy it while you're there!

Have you been through a event like this lately? What do you do to help get yourself through it healthy and happy?

I'm so happy to be back in the blog world...give me a week or two and I'll do my best to get caught up! Plus the lovely Erin is working on a new blog design for me! I CAN'T WAIT!!!

#HASHTAGHUMPDAY | No One's Home

It's Fair week. I'm not available for #hashtagging anything and it #sucksafatty.

By next week Fair will be over and I can finally, FINALLY get back to blogging. Maybe even celebrate my 2 year blogiversary that was this past weekend #highhopes

So I'm not really  here this week.

No fear though, my partner in crime Lauren is carrying my weight  and you should go say hi to her at Genuinely Lauren!

See you next week lovers!

PS you should still LINK UP!

#HASHTAGHUMPDAY | It's Almost Fair Week

Ok, it's T-minus one week till Fair. Crazily enough I kind of feel like I can breathe again this week. Although I know that will be knocked out of me come next Monday.

And even though I feel calmer, it doesn't mean my life has slowed down enough to blog on the regular...yet.

So thank you so much for showing up for my one post of the week. The day Lauren and I link up to share what's going on and hashtag the Schmidt out of it! Go say hi to her would ya?

Kapeesh?

So I had big plans for my Blogiversary  - it's this Sunday! Two years flies by! But low and behold it has to fall right in the middle of all this craziness. It could happen, and there could be an AWESOME giveaway, but that all remains to be seen #fingerscrossed #youknowiliketothrowaparty #evenjustonline

The roommate has moved in. Life is slowly crawling into normalcy. All I know is my house is the cleanest it has ever been due to the deep clean it saw prior to and while he moved in #illtakeit #letshopeicanmaintainit

Speaking of the roommate, he's way different than the guys I've lived with in the past. For starters he has a matching bedroom set - hell I don't even have that - with a fancy headboard, designer linens and lamps that look straight from Pottery Barn. He even has stuff for the bathroom - a nice clock, matching towels, and his, GET THIS, fancy blow dryer! That's right this guy is more organized and feminine than I am - especially for a straight guy #reallywhoisthisguy #metrotastic #idontknowifilikeitornot

I had to do a TV interview for a local daytime talk show here yesterday #basicallyimfamous. I wasn't nervous till they sat me up there with the hosts and the hot lights shone in my I'm sure shiny, pudgy face. Doing the interview was not that bad - but watching it Friday when it airs? I'll probably throw up #ihatewatchingmyself #thecameraadds100lbs #pleasedontwatch

Two weeks from now I will finally be in the clear. Fair will be over. I can hardly even imagine it and yet I cannot freaking wait. Can we fast forward please #letsgetherdone #almostthere #marathonnotasprint

Odds are next week I won't be here for #hashtaghumpday. My apologies in advance. I will get it up so all you lovely ladies can link up and Lauren can run the show.

In the meantime, I will be missing you!

#HASHTAGHUMPDAY | Currently Hybrid

Whoopsie daisy. I feel like I have had way too many oopsies this past month and it's just not ok.

Once again I'm late getting the link up published and as the founder I deserve a big ol' slap on the wrist.

Sorry friends! Or whoever is still around reading. For those of you who are, I FREAKIN' LOVE YA!

Make sure you go say hi to the gal who's probably off at the dog beach right now. Man I wish I had Wednesdays off! Anyways go give some love to Lauren!

Something different for this week. Going to combine "currently" and hashtags! #yourewelcome

Currently...

Wishing...it was August. July is my craziest, most stressful, most want to kill-myself-and-get-it-over-with month of the whole year. Come August that will all be a thing of the past and I cannot wait #letshopeimakeittillthen #august1imgettingdrunkforsure

Stressing... about a new roommate coming into my home and getting the house ready for him.  Now I'm all over the dollar billzzz that will be coming my way but it's super stressful to try and clean out the spare bedroom that has become my dump all junk room and to make room in the fridge, kitchen, utility, etc. Plus I probably need to bleach the entire guest bathroom that will now be his. Let's just throw all that on top of the July stresses I already have #seeabove #pleasebeworththemoney #summercleaning

Eating...pretty much anything and everything. Stress does not help in the health category. Plus I've officially decided we're going Whole30 staring August 3! So my new mindset is I better eat it while I can. Fair food included which I'm only a couple short weeks from #bringonthecorndogs #minidonuts #bbqsundae #notevenashamed

Preparing... for one last reasonably minimal stress loaded weekend left of the month. This is the last one I have and I'm going to need to breathe it in deep. Even though the new roommate will be moving in I'm going to try not to let that add to the stress. I need to be zen, I need it for my sanity. #lotsofsleep #lotsoffood #lotsofnetflix

Hoping... I'll still have a blog life after this is all over. I know with my lack of posts lately it's likely all my readers and friends are dropping like flies. It adds even more stress and anxiety, because this is my happy place. And when this is all over I want to come back to my happy place and not have to re-build #pleasestaywithme #illbeback #iloveyoudontleaveme

Disappearing... for most likely the rest of July. Fair is here folks and it's totally consuming. When I get home I can barely do anything before bed, sometimes not even eat, let alone blog. I hope to be here next week for #hashtaghumpday but judging by this week's appearance it's not looking good. Fingers crossed my friends. Maybe I can surprise us, maybe not.

Until next time...

5 Summertime Favorites

Summer is most certainly upon us. Or maybe that's the high of 104 here today talking.

While I LOVE summer, I tend to favor spring and fall and a little more mild temperatures. Or at the very least a good summer rain and thunderstorm to help cool thing off in the evenings. No such luck yet. Just 100+ over and over and over....

But there's still a lot of love.

With hot temps, more hours of daylight and seemingly more and more going on every weekend, there are a few things that I really gravitate to in the summer.

Here are my 5 favorite things in the this Summer. Outside the obvious ones like air conditioning and beer...

1 | The Sonic Diet Cherry Limeade. I've said once and I'll say it again. And again. Because it's the best. So refreshing on a hot day - PLUS during happy hour you can get a large for $1.22 or something close to that. I'm always buying 4+ for everyone in the office so I don't know the exact price. If you haven't had one of these, get yourself to a Sonic between the hours of 2-4 PM stat. They're low cal too!

2 | Maxi Dresses/Skirts. I live for wearing a maxi. They are the crotchless version of yoga pants and yet they look 100% more dressy and work appropriate. They are perfect in the summer because they hide possibly white or un-toned legs (me) while still allowing some fresh air down there. Plus fun colors and prints for the season! I scored this one at Target for $13 earlier this summer. Be jealous.

3 | Self Tanner. When I'm not in those fabulous maxi's and do have to show my legs, I would like for them to appear tan - and SEXY. Since I am trying to do good by my dermatologist and not soak in the rays for a dark tan this summer (which is tough let me tell you) I use my favorite self tanner. I've tried A LOT over the years and this is my favorite! Fake Bake Flawless. I ordered it on Amazon and it is a gel-spray formula you use with a mitt to apply. It's a little pricey but the bottle I bought spring of 2014 is still going strong!

4 | Sunglasses. Yes, I know, most people wear them year-round. But I feel like in the summer they become a statement. You have to have a pair at all times. Plus shades make me feel ten times sexier. Or is that just me?

5 | My Dog. Ok he's my favorite year-round. But there's no one better to hang out with in the summer than him. He will never complain about the heat. Plus I love taking him down to the river to cool off!

What are your summertime favorites?

Can you tell I really like car selfies and feeling sexy in the summer? hahahaha

Have a beyond wonderful, safe 4th of July everyone!
